Enjoy gardens, wine and history while traveling through one of the most scenic areas in Maryland. Tour public and private gardens throughout downtown Frederick at the annual “Beyond The Garden Gates” event. Taste a variety of wines at Frederick Cellars, Maryland’s first urban winery and one of six wineries located on the Frederick Wine Trail. While in the historic district, circa 1745 enjoy shopping at the many specialty, clothing, and boutique shops. Decorators and collectors love the variety of stores specializing in antiques and home furnishings.
Your adventure continues at Rose Hill Manor, the last home of Maryland’s first elected governor, Thomas Johnson. This Georgian Colonial museum offers interpretive demonstrations of Colonial life as well as impressively maintained gardens and an extensive carriage collection.
Beautiful gardens and a peaceful serenity surround you at the Grotto of Lourdes located at the foot of the Catoctin Mountains. The Grotto is the earliest American replica of the famous French Grotto where the apparition of Mary appeared 150 years ago.
Dine at one of the area's fine restaurants that include locally raised beef, harvested produce or award winning wines into their daily specials. Frederick County is home to farms and markets that sell beef, dairy products, wine and produce.
Frederick County is centrally located forty-five minutes from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland making it the perfect location to hub and spoke to other popular destinations.
