Itinerary
Day One:
Morning
Agecroft Hall – Marvel at the 15th – century Lancashire, England estate that Richmonder Thomas C. Williams Jr. purchased, shipped across the Atlantic and painstakingly reassembled on the rolling banks of the James River. Charles Gillette-designed gardens flank the estate. The grounds and gardens reflect the glorious style of England’s Tudor and early Stuart periods.
Virginia House – A blend of three romantic English Tudor designs, this home is beautifully decorated with English and Spanish antiques, silk draperies, exquisite carpets and fine silver and china. Tiered gardens designed by Charles Gillette make an exquisite backdrop to this home.
Afternoon
Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden – Explore more than 40 acres of gardens, including one of the largest and most diverse perennial gardens on the East Coast, a daffodil and daylily collection and a wetland environment with water irises and lotuses.
Day Two:
Morning
Executive Mansion (by appointment only) – Tour the oldest continuously occupied governor’s residence in the country, and enjoy gorgeous gardens maintained by the Garden Club of Virginia.
Wickham House and Valentine Richmond History Center – This incredible example of 19th-century Federal architecture features some of the finest interior decorative painting. Enjoy lunch at Richmond Café in the charming courtyard garden.
Afternoon
Maymont – Explore this 100 acre gem in the middle of the City of Richmond. Expansive gardens include an Italian Garden and Japanese Garden as well as rolling hills adorned with majestic trees and exotic plants. While you are there, visit the Victorian Maymont house and the various wildlife habitats and nature center.
